Final - Dakota Young

My intent for this project was to make a banner ad to showcase the hot tubs I'm selling. I had numerous symbols I had my hot tub and bubbles symbols and each one of my steam pieces are different symbols. I created a animation of my man waving to click on the link and motion tween my text across the top. I used most of the design tools to make my man and used bevel, sketch skew, color, fill, gradient on my hot tub. I organized my folders and library to make it easier to find the objects in my project. I spent a lot of time messing around with mask and buttons.

Final - Samuel Cohoon

Final

The intention for my project was unknown until 11:00AM, today. But, after several scrapped projects over the last week, and several tears shed, i came up with an idea. A faux super hero/super villian advert. I started with the animation, which was then moved to the center of the project. Then i added the text at the beginning, and lastly the information pages about the products I was selling. Some bologna text thrown in there to show I could use TLF and I was done.

I used a symbol from my Mid Term, which turned into a button after heavy manipulation. That button was then duplicated and turned into the Play/Pause/Link buttons in my project.I actually didn't use any complete graphics. I felt that after my last 'complex' project I needed a break. Needless to say this project still took me several hours, as i'm sure everyones' did.

I managed my library by using lots of folder, as usual. I did the same with my timeline organization. It may not seem organized to the teach as she goes over it, but to me it is perfection. I tried to organize in a hierarchical manner, but like an OS's folder tree.

Here is my color scheme in Hex:

I really enjoyed this project. Big thanks to G4's coverage of E3, it helped me stay sane while laboring over this project today.

What was your intention for your project? Did you meet that goal?
-Well. it took me quite a while to even decide on wanted to do. Originally i was going to make a banner for my website but i decided to make a banner for a futon store instead! Anyways. I cant say i really had a goal but i like how it turned out and it was pretty fun to work on so i think thats about as close as im going to get on that one. On a side note tho everyone should watch
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko. Thats pretty much what my final was based off of, I even added the ending song to my project. If you didn't click the music button do so now!!!!

Discuss general details of your process.

-Well my final used quite a few motion tweens along with frame by frame animation(mainly when my ufo's decided to drop things off and fly away) I also made alot of my images in Photoshop and imported them over/converted to a symbol

Please discuss how you managed your library assets and your timeline.

- Layers. Lots. and lots. and lots. of layers, like with all adobe products... withought layers.... chances are we would all spontaneously combust in about 15-25 depending on the project.
One interesting thing i noticed during this project was that if you click the layer it automatically selects everything in that layer for you saving you a little time moving things around. (as long as their in the same layer that is which for me is pretty rare since i generally try to make a new layer for just about everything.

I did think about using the motion editor at one point but i just couldn't think of a good use for it in this project, same with layer masks even tho i seriously trying to think of somewhere i could use them. I almost made a mask to follow a lazer for the text removal near the end but i ended up going with a fade out instead with my ufo flying in afterwards with the sign/logoish thing.

Anyway that's about it unless i overlooked something.

What was your intention for your project? Did you meet that goal? My intention was to create an animation that caught the viewer's eye with a skateboarder skating off a ramp and "tribe wheels" following him (showing the audience that the wheels had a mind of their own). I feel that i met my goal.

Please identify your symbols from a prior project. The symbol I used from a prior project was my person_one symbol. (this was also the symbol that I modified).

Please discuss how you managed your library assets and your

timeline. I used folders for both...making sure that i put the proper layers in the logical folders on the timeline and also seperated the symbols from the tween and images and so forth into the proper folders in the library.

Respond to all questions listed within the requirements. My Kuler colers : 04401E, 287326, D9D3B8, A65D03, 591303 (HEX). I used the pen tool for the lady in my movie. I created 5 new symbols (clouds, skateboard, skater w/ skateboard, wheels (2 sets), and the shaded skateboarder as well. like i said above i reused the person_one symbol from a past project and modified it.

My tweens were skateboarder 2(classic tween), clouds(classic tween), the skater w/ the skateboard (motion tween), wheels (motion), wheels falling (motion), ramp (shape tween). I used easing on my wheel tween and the wheels dropping tween. My IK and armature was with my lady. My mask is on the left side where skateboarder disappears and the wheels fall from. I have sound on my start button and added audio to my movie clip.

If you used the motion editor, please describe your experience. I did use the motion editor for two tweens...it was really cool to mess around with it and see how just doing a little bit with it can make a big difference. It really helps with making things smoother.

What was your intention for your project? Did you meet that goal?

Well, to be honest, I really had no idea what to do for this project. I guess that with the end of the term, my creativity died. In the end I was reminded of the giraffe/hyena/lion images we used early on in the class and thought I'd make a simple (emphasis on simple) banner ad for a Safari. I did meet the goal, but I do wish I had come up with an idea that I could have made something really cool out of.

Discuss general details of your process.

I didn't use any from a prior project, but I did make new ones and re-edited them into different symbols. I didn't create a next animation this time. I used the pen tool for the silhouettes, but I wouldn't say it was very difficult for that the graphics are very complex. I used the pen tool, brush tool, bucket tool, some shape tools and gradient fills to create the project background. I named all layers and folders accordingly and organized them logically.

What was your intention for your project? Did you meet that goal?
My intention was to do something, I liked and would not feel like a big final, I tried to have fun and meet the guidelines.

Please provide a detailed description of your process for any complex graphic.
start with brush tool for more curvy lines and pen for straight line and make sure to brake it down if you want to put it into a armature
Please discuss how you managed your library assets and your timeline.
The timeline is no easy task, i had to keep going back to the beginning to make the intro longer and for the library DONT CREATE LOT OF SYMBOLS WITH GENETIC NAMES!
If you used the motion editor, please describe your experience.
I used to motion editor bounce to use on the robot when he enters the city.

All in all, this project was fun. I wish, i had a computer with flash then I could have made more time, but life goes on. I wanted to see robots and monsters fighting when I went into the multimedia side of things, so i did just that. The drawing is easy with both the pen and brush tool (favorite is the brush). For the building I use of course the deco tool, a very awesome tool. The tween were hard to manage in the beginning but it go easier. The buttons were not hard this time, but after day of action scipting questions; it was ok.

What was your intention for your project? Did you meet that goal?
I tried to make people interested in skateboarding or if they already skateboard, then go out and skate (with my fake product). I think I did. Skateboarders like to see sequenced tricks and that was the coolest part of my project probably.

I didn't use any prior objects, unfortunately. I figured I'd take the hit on the five points to avoid having an alien rampaging through the background of my skateboard ad.

I didn't use a nested animation. I used a lot of tweens, but decided there weren't any particular objects that would benefit from nesting.

Please provide a detailed description of your process for any complex
graphic:
My graphics weren't too complex, but the trick sequence was pretty fun to do. I just brought in a frame-by-frame picture of someone doing a 360-flip and traced over each frame with the brush tool. I did this for each captured position of the skater, then used the five or six different symbols with some motion riding up to the next position and fading out (alpha change) quickly to make it smoother or more stylish. Like I said, it's not super-complex, but it was fun to try and mimic the real movement of a 360-flip.

I mostly used the brush tool to create the objects that aren't text. I did a lot of onion-skinning and that sort of thing. Even the mask of the skater with the concrete and stairs in the background was made by brushing over a real picture.

I like to keep my library and timeline management simple. Folders for each different animation or seemingly same object. Of course, keeping armatures and sound in folders is what I did as well. Library is pretty much the same for me.

I ran into a really frustrating problem. For some reason, between adding sound and actionscript, my armatures disappeared. I tried a bunch of different things and for some reason, they don't show up. There are supposed to be some swinging chains in the final info screen, but they don't show. They were a little cheesy anyway, but this was very disappointing.
