1. I didn't experience a lot of problems with the drawing tools, but when I was getting frustrated, it was almost always with the pen tool. It kept extending the lines in completely different directions than I was clicking. I didn't find a solution to this. I just think it's not a super-intuitive tool for (maybe new?) users. I preferred the paint brush and shape tools for creating new objects.
2. I just used the tree deco tool, I believe. I was able to create the tree I wanted with it. Deco tools are pretty easy to use and look good for the most part.
3. The main thing I drew with the pen tool was my alien. It was a pain in the backside because of the problem I mentioned in question 1. When I was drawing the legs and body, it kept extending the line to a position that I hadn't clicked on. If there's a simple fix that I'm not considering, somebody please call me out.
4. I created my alien by outlining it with the pen tool, filling it with a small radial gradient of two aquamarine-ish colors and adding eyes and a "mouth". The eyes were just made with the oval tool with a slight radial gradient fill and more black ovals for the pupils. The spiny mouth is a 10- or 12-point star (from the polystar tool).
5. Manipulating the folder and layers within and without was really easy to understand and helpful in organization. I used the lock function for the different layers often, to be sure not to select things from other layers.
I like how you made the alien's mouth using the star shape tool.
